Temporal Editing

is simply the use of time, and how time is condensed to show the important parts of storytelling through duration, frequency and order of events.
Good examples of this type of editing are:
cutaways

flash forward

flash back

time ellipsis to show the progression of time in a story

empty frame, where the artist moves out of the frame, but returns in the next shot. (the photo shows the artists hands leaving the frame, then re-entering in a wider shot with the artist)
